Lay it all out | Why layering is so important in the fall

Bella Maas

We can list a variety of different reasons as to why layering is important in the fall. The most obvious one would probably be that it is getting pretty cold outside, as it usually does, and we don’t want to freeze our butts off in the frigid air. The fall season is among us and all we really want to do is snuggle up next to a fire wrapped in layers of shirts and blankets. We’re going to argue, that despite popular opinion, staying warm is not always the first option.

Layering is fashionable! Combining a number of the right pieces can turn your outfit from bland to trendy in just a matter of minutes. These two looks are just a few ideas on fall fashion you can use to spice up the cold air this fall.

An easy way to layer is with shirts. Having a shorter shirt with a longer shirt underneath adds two dimensions to your top piece. This John + Jen top already does the work for you with a wren tank that has a shirttail attached, peeking out of the bottom. Of course, a tank isn’t sufficient enough for the fall weather, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t add another layer! This grey Fidelity jacket matches your shirt perfectly and adds a jean texture to your look. Add some more jean with a pair of Hudson Crop Skinnys in a dark blue. Finally, an outfit is never complete without a cute pair of Malu Short Boots and a Daniel Wellington watch.

Watch: Daniel Wellington - $265.00 | Top: John + Jen - wren tank with shirttail overboard - $149.00 | Jacket: Fidelity - Ryder vintage graphite jacket - $198.00 | Shoes: Franco Sarto - Malu Short Boot - $225.00 | Jeans: Hudson - Krista crop super skinny - $289.00

Jackets on Jackets

Shirts are easy to layer, but so are jackets! This outfit combines two of them – a Soft by Joie poncho, complete with a checkered pattern, and a Bano eeMee leather jacket. Since the poncho drapes over the shoulders without any sleeves, the leather jacket compensates for it and shows off two pieces at once. The great thing about this look is that you can take off the poncho whenever you want and show off a totally new outfit; this will expose a short sleeve neck tee by Bobi Los Angeles in the process. Accessories are interchangeable, depending on what look you are striving for. We suggest this tanned purse by Lowell, or a Matt and Nat parabole small crossbody. The Malu Short Boot is perfect in black to finish off the look.

Poncho - Jacket: Soft by Joie - Caviar - $418.00  | Leather Jacket: Bano eeMee - Attica Black - $558.00 | Purse: Matt and Nat - Parabole small crossbody - $136 | Tanned Purse: Lowell - Casgrain - $330.00  | Top: Bobi Los Angeles - Short sleeve neck tee - $67.00 | Shoes: Franco Sarto - Malu Short Boot - $225.00
