Blue Monday. If you’ve never heard of the phenomenon, the idea is that January 16th (or usually the third Monday in January) is the most depressing day of the year for everyone in the Northern Hemisphere. The excitement of the holidays has worn off, the next long weekend is still a long way away, and the coldest part of winter is still to come. It can feel like there’s nothing left to look forward to, and the new year is off to a dark, cold, and crappy start.
At Bella Maas Boutique, we’re fully aware of the depressing nature of this time of year, but we have some advice to help you shop local and keep the blues out of Blue Monday. Something that always puts a spring in our step is a new outfit or a fun new addition to our wardrobes. Even something little like a new necklace can be enough to make you excited to get up in the morning and put it on. When you feel confident in how you look, your whole mood changes too.
Chic and Cheerful
The 90s are back in all the best ways for women’s clothing, and this sleeveless turtleneck from Backdrop is a great staple with a throwback vibe. It makes a perfect go-to layering piece and keeps you nice and warm in Edmonton winters without any extra bulk. We’ve styled it with a classic Dex black skirt Rachel Green would die for and a Club Manhattan necklace to help keep your inner sparkle alive.
Top: Backdrop - $75.00 | Skirt: Dex - $69.00 | Necklace: Club Manhattan - $41.00
Black Is Our Happy Colour
To beat Blue Monday, confidence is key. There’s nothing like a killer all black outfit to make you feel put-together, strong, and just a little edgy. That’s why we love this Rails Clothing dress. It’s sharp but still flowy, and the vertical stripe draws the eye up and down, creating a flattering style. We’ve added some Seychelles booties and a Wolf Circus choker to really make a statement in Edmonton fashion. This look is ready to go on its own, but it’s also versatile enough to wear layered over some tights or with your favourite trench on an especially cold day.
Shoes: Seychelles - $170.00 | Choker: Wolf Circus - $52.00 | Dress: Rails Clothing - $237.00
Now you’re ready to take on Blue Monday in style (and with a smile).
